MINDSEYE
Royal College of Arts (RCA) partnered with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) to examine how innovative and disruptive technologies can help meet the most ambitious challenges in the world. Mindseye is a collaborative design between five students from the School of Design and CERN. It is a tool to diagnose and communicate the behavioral abnormalities of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), as well as, a tool to create empathy with others. The design consists in translating spoken words in real time, into 3D visuals which can be experienced in a VR environment. Mindseye has started with BDD, but the possibilities are limitless. It could move onto wider mental diseases, and then proceed onto other parts of society, where ethically visualising someone’s thoughts could build empathy and help communication. This project was selected as one of the finalist in the Grand Challenge Competition 2018 hosted by RCA & CERN.
